Jennifer Hillier placed Glass back in the fictional town of Seaside, with three friends, soon to be two, at the local amusement park Wonderland. After the mysterious passing of Lorelei, the other friends, Barb and Nicolette, end up going their own way until they are brought back together in Seaside decades later.
With this marking my first foray into the writings of Hillier, I had expectations that Glass was going to be constant twists and turns that I have heard others speak about with her other books. I did find that it had a few nice twists along the way; I was able to guess Lorelei’s killer pretty early on, but found the reveal of how it played out fairly clever. I did enjoy the way that Hillier sped up the reveals as the book went along, almost reminding me of an amusement park ride, how sometimes they start slow, but the thrill is in the back half of the attraction.
One of my biggest gripes was how the leadership of the town handled everything when the body washed ashore. I won’t give anything away, but it just seemed that they were only worried about what was in the best interest of the town instead of justice, which seems to be a growing problem in reality these days.
For those of us who like dark and twisted storytelling, this book is for you. There should be some consideration though because there are some sensitive topics included in this book beyond murder.
